How I can use a blog in my classroom

I can think of many ways to use a blog in my classroom but here are the main 3 that come to mind:

1. Have my newsletters posted here for easy reference for parents and for me to refer to when parents ask me questions. It gives a pretty good recap of each week so it could also help me remember what I did the previous year.

2. I would make an a folder with different apps and websites that would be useful for the parents of my class to use to help them support their child in this new language (new the parent and the student). I have a few which tells the sounds of letters and says syllables to help in pronouncing words. I currently post YouTube videos of the different song we sing in class for them to sing at home too. They love this! I could add these links in addition to the websites.

3. When I start spelling tests, I could post the words here. I also found an app for iPhone that makes flashcards of whatever word I want and I could post that link in addition to the words as a way to practice.

  1. I love the look of your blog! I'm not sure what grade you teach, but spellingcity.com has awesome practice activities for the lower grade levels. I definitely want to look into apps for the same reason, too. Thanks!

  2. I agree with Jen - your background is beautiful! Using songs to teach language is very powerful - and giving parents Youtube videos of the songs is a fun way to extend that into the home. My grandmother taught grades 1-8 in a one-room school and a few of her students arrived only speaking German. Her classes involved a great deal of singing - it engaged different ages of kids and taught her ESL kids English. Think what she could have done with Youtube!!!

  3. I love your idea about using a blog to help you remember what you did in previous years. The Eiffel Tower in the background and the purple color set a wonderful mood for reflective thinking. I put a song in my blog too. I love how links allow us to add another dimension to student learning.

  4. Hi Florence, I also love the look of your blog! I agree that a blog would be a great way to keep in touch with parents. I also love the idea of keeping track of past year's activities.
